Why hello...

This is a blog for my AP ECON class and it is titled "gonnageta5" because I believe in positive thinking. You will acomplish only what you expect from yourself. I am challenging myself in saying that I am going to get a five on the ap exam... since I dont want to be a liar, I better stop typing and go study cause this stuff is hard!!

NEW CAR!!!!

SO my parents and i were looking at cars for me to take to college, specifically a toyota corolla. We were looking at the 06's but the dealer said that there is a 1000 dollar rebate on new 08's which would make it almost cheaper to buy a brand spanking new car!!! I saw an 08 that i like and he said that there wasnt a rebate on it cause it wasnt a NEW 08. i didnt understand what the difference was that a slightly used one didnt get 1000 off but the new ones did, but they were almost the same starting. he explained this....
THe new 09s are coming out so they want to get ride of the 08's because someone in the market for a new car would want and 09 and not and 08. but if someone was in the market for a used car.. they would want a used 08 instead of a new one... so pretty much the used car loookers want not new... and the new car owners want new 09... so to highten the demand for the new 08's to get them off the lot... they give rebates for them... which is fine with me... ill take 1000 dollars off a new car!!

Thats a pretty sweet deal for you. The whole concept is kind of backwards both by consumers and by the dealers. The consumers you would think are smart enough to wait for the 09's to come out and then buy the 08 and youd think that dealers would want to get rid of used cars and not new ones but I guess Im wrong.

I've never really thought about something like this before. I see how it works though as the demand for '08s would be low for both consumers looking for used cars and those looking for new cars. The lower the demand, the lower the price...which works out pretty well for you! Lucky!

I want a toyota corolla!

That's great - I wish I were in the market for a car. The whole concept kind of doesn't make sense to me, but it does. (Hah, that makes sense!) After your explanation I understand why they're doing it, and I understand why it works, but wow that must feel too good to be true!

Oh well that's cool! I'm jealous!

Wow that's pretty cool. And that makes a lot of sense for car dealers. I guess now is a good time to buy a car with the new 09's about to come out.
luckyyyyyyy

I think you'd be a fool to get an '09 when you can get an '08 for $1000 cheaper, and there's probably not much difference between the '08 and '09, right? The incentives for both you (to save money) and the dealer (to get the older cars off the lot) are aligned, so you both get something out of it.
But what would I know about new cars anyway; I drive a good old '91 that I'm going to *try* and make last through college :)

This is really interesting. I've never thought about it this way before, probably because I make an effort to avoid all talk involving cars, but hey. Although, now that I've read this, it totally explains why our family's "kid car" is the newest one. On the lot where we bought it, my '04 was lined up next to all the '06s. The guy tried to sell us an '06, but it was $2000 more expensive for a car that I could see virtually no improvement in. I think this says a lot about our society and how we have such a need to always have the best/most recent/most expensive model of a good that we overlook great deals like this.

Wow, that's awesome! I have never thought about it like that before. Now that you've explained it I understand. I'm going to use this reasoning to get my parents to buy me a new car. It probably won't work but hey it's worth a shot. =)
